Attention to a R/F wireless room thermostat(Digistat plus) fitted just over
a year ago to a combi boiler.Owner changed the batteries thinking this
was the problem.It didn't work.
Checked the R/f room thermostat found she couldn't change to a higher
temperature, she had set the temperature so it couldn't be altered.
Reset the unit as per instructions to change the Preset temperature settings. Now she can select a temp range from the min to max, returning
the unit back to normal operation. Thus avoiding replacing the complete
unit.I advised the customer on the use of the set button.
Good result.

Solar Panels and carbon monoxide alarms.
Found books on solar energy and solar panels, and CO ( carbon monoxide )
detectors/alarms.
As a gas service engineer I highly recommend these be fitted in all
homes that use gas,oil any fossil fuel for that matter. They also come
combined with smoke alarms. These devices protect you and your family
and must be fitted as per the manufactures instructions.

All in a days work.
Called out to a breakdown today, gas boiler not working.
Tested the boiler, found electric fault, loose neautral wiring connection to wiring centre on boiler.Remade the connection, tested left working.
When working on the boiler the customer asked me why sections of the radiators are cold and parts hot?
I explained that the system needed to be flushed,i recommened a power flush
while removing air from the radiators you could see by the colour of the
water that sludge was present.Checked expansion tank in loft also open
vent and cold feed, found no signs of pumping over, recommend after flush
inhibitor be used on completion of job.Estimate given customer to decide
when job to proceed.

All in a days work.
I have just started to blog, and at least once a week i will post a blog to do with my weeks work in the
plumbing and heating and the gas industry.
I will post the blog with reference to the jobs i have done or the advice given, the problems solved or in hand.
For instance i am completing an estimate to do a combi boiler change with a new condensing combi boiler,
the customer was lead to belive it was a straight forward job,but i informed him what in fact had to be done.
The placement of the boiler, the flue position, condense waste, the power flush.New room thermostat etc.
I carry out break downs on all types of boilers and heating systems and come across some interesting
situations and being in this industry for forty years its still a learning curve.
I am now looking at Solar energy, solar thermal and solar Pva.to increase my business.I belive its the
way the our industry is heading with the use of alternative fuel.
Till the next time.
